 MCQ Scoring

From the 2009/10 academic year there will be a change to how MCQ examinations are marked.

Our pass mark has changed to 50% as our awards are now being made by UCD via the School of Professional Finance and it has been necessary for the Institute to adopt the UCD academic regulations.

Currently, candidates are awarded one mark for a correct answer.  However, the new MCQ scoring rules will award 3 marks for a correct answer, minus 1 for an incorrect answer and zero for no answer.

The new pass mark and MCQ scoring mechanism are specifically designed not to benefit nor penalise students but to have a neutral effect in the implementation of new academic regulations.

The new MCQ scoring will not come into effect until the January 2010 exams.  The marking scheme for the exams in September will be the same as all the other 2008/2009 examinations.

Some changes have been made to the suite of delivered modules/programmes, which take effect from the beginning of the 2010/11 academic year.  If you are a candidate that has one or more outstanding modules in these qualifications, the Institute is offering final re-sit examination opportunities in each module.

'New look' online Student Centre.

The Institute of Bankers is pleased to announce the launch of its ‘new look’ online student centre.  The student centre has been redesigned to enhance how members use it to study, maintain their designation and read correspondence. The menu structures have been re-designed to make the site easier and more intuitive to navigate.

The student centre has been split into 4 sections. They are: Modules; CPD; Correspondence and Events.

The Modules section will contain all the modules that a student is registered for. Under the module name will be menu items that link into the supports offered for that module. For example, QFA Regulation will have the following menu items: News, Lecture Notes, Sample Papers, e-Learning, Take A Test, Exam Feedback and Library.

The Correspondence menu has the sections Module, CPD, Membership, Cash Receipts, Event and Archive. The archive section holds any correspondence that is over a year old.

Under the CPD menu there will be Online CPD Record, Record CPD Hours, and Annual Return where the member has a designation.

The Events section will have links to event registrations a member has in the future and for 30 days after the event has completed.

Should you have any queries on the Student Centre please contact us by calling 01-6116500.
